“Grandmammy, Grandpappy! I’m so
happy you came!!” This is what the kids screamed hysterically
as they saw their grandparents walking sloooowly… down
the hall. Every September, the children in the Elementary
invite their grandparents to come to Grace Christian School
and visit their classes. This year, over one hundred fifty
grannies and gramps from coast to coast were in attendance,
including representatives from Florida, Pennsylvania, Missouri,
and Hawaii. The grandparents not only toured the school, but
also sat in on the classes, enjoyed a scrumptious lunch with
their grandchildren, and galloped gallantly on the playground
with the youngsters as they used to back in the day.
Grandparents Day is not only held at Grace Christian School,
but is held across the nation. In 1978, President Jimmy Carter
proclaimed that National Grandparents Day would be celebrated
every year on the first Sunday after Labor Day, according
to grandparents-day.com.
The grandparents enjoyed refreshments to revitalize their
spirits, including a nice tangy lemon beverage and a smorgasbord
of munchies. In several of the classes, the students introduced
their grandparents to the class. Some of the grandparents
shared stories from their childhood with the students. Grandparents
Day was not only enlightening but joyous to all at Grace Fellowship
and around the world.
