For the middle school Christmas social
we went to the Tulsa Ice Arena. Many people fell, some didn't,
and some didn't even skate. After we went to the arena, we
went back to the Edge.
At the Edge we had a lot of food and candy,
and we were able to play basketball, pool, air hockey, video
games, ping-pong and foosball. After a day filled with fun,
our parents picked us up at 12:45.

Although everyone likes
to watch their friends fall flat on their faces and skid across
the freezing ice arena, the Christmas skating social was getting
old. Over the years, the words "Christmas Social" have become
synonymous with ice and roller skating. This year, however,
the high school student council added some holiday spice to
this arguably bland field trip. "What is there to do in Oklahoma?"
you might ask. This year's new holiday twist was a trip to
the Incredible Pizza Arcade.
Rather than continuously circling the same dull
rink, students crushed bowling pins, sped around sharp corners
on the racetrack, and collected tickets that oozed out of
blinking arcade machines. After miniature golf, the virtual
reality jeep, skee ball, and racing, it was time to refuel.
The exhausted students inhaled pizza, pasta, frozen yogurt,
and pop. Cheap prizes made junk souvenirs, and pictures provided
cheerful memories.
One final holiday treat - several students glimpsed
country singer Garth Brooks zooming along the racetrack. He
was there making a dream come true for a young boy as part
of the Make-a-Wish Foundation's activities. The students stayed
a respectful distance from the superstar, while continuing
their activities. The same could not be said for the chaperones,
who insisted on sneaking one more peek at Mr. Brooks. With
junk food, tacky prizes, exciting activities and a celebrity
appearance, the Incredible Pizza field trip killed any chance
of Grace returning to the skating rink anytime soon.
