On January 6, 2005, Grace held its
annual Geography Bee, drawing participants from grades four
through eight. The ten students taking part had all qualified
in preliminary bees in their respective grades several weeks
earlier. On this day, the young men and ladies were called
upon to answer questions about geography and topography, both
in the United States and international locations.
Mrs. Carolyne Som de Cerff served as the
emcee, secondary principal Mr. West and academic counselor
Mrs. Hood were judges, elementary Assistant Vice-Principal
Mrs. Jacobsen was timekeeper and elementary principal Mrs.
McKay was the coordinator of the bee.
The students participating were:
Hanna Duininck
Matt Fears
Witt Briscoe
Freddi Tinkler
Gershon Koshy
Ben Pledger
Joe Hull
Jessica Freeman
Emily Blackstad
Kelsey Baucom
The first and second
place winners are both from the eighth-grade class: Gershon
Koshy took first place, and Hanna Duininck was the second-place
winner. Gershon Koshy will now be required to take a written,
multiple-choice test in order to qualify for the next level
of competition: Oklahoma's State Geography Bee. If Gershon's
score on this test is among the top 100 in the state, he will
represent Grace at that level. Best wishes to Gershon!
